Plastic Surgeon Brisbane, BSc, MBBS, FRACS (Plast)
Choosing your breast augmentation surgeon in Brisbane and Gold Coast
This isn’t just about choosing a procedure; it’s about choosing a person you trust. As a specialist plastic surgeon (FRACS), I’ve trained extensively in both reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery. But more than that, I take a calm, personalised approach with every patient. There’s no pressure; just honest advice and care that continues long after your surgery.
A plastic surgeon is a doctor who’s completed recognised specialist training in surgery (FRACS), overseen by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and AHPRA. A cosmetic surgeon may not hold this qualification. If you’re comparing options, it’s worth reading this article: The difference between a cosmetic and plastic surgeon.
I operate at accredited private hospitals across both cities. In Brisbane, I work at Mater Private Hospital in South Brisbane and Herston Private Hospital. On the Gold Coast, I operate at Gold Coast Private Hospital and Miami Private Hospital. We’ll plan your care based on your location, preferences, and what’s most suitable for your recovery.
Breast augmentation after pregnancy
Yes, many people can breastfeed after breast augmentation, but it’s not guaranteed. We use surgical techniques designed to minimise disruption to nerves and milk ducts, such as inframammary incisions and implant placement under the muscle. If breastfeeding is important to you, we’ll discuss this thoroughly during your consultation.
Women can have breast augmentation before or after having children. Any potential impact on breastfeeding will be discussed during your consultation.
That depends on your anatomy. If the nipple remains in a suitable position and there’s adequate skin tone, an implant alone might restore volume. If there’s more significant droop, a breast lift may also be recommended. We’ll assess this carefully during your appointment and decide together based on your goals and clinical needs.
Understanding breast implant safety
Breast augmentation can achieve natural-looking results when the size, shape, and placement are carefully selected for your body. While no result can be guaranteed, we aim for outcomes that align with your goals and proportions. We’ll discuss what’s achievable in your case.
You’re welcome to bring ideas or preferences. Some women prefer a soft, natural contour, while others want more upper pole volume. We’ll use clinical imaging, sizers, and visual references to guide the process, always with a focus on balance and medical suitability.
That depends on implant size, your existing breast tissue, and the clothes you wear. Some people prefer a noticeable change, while others want a subtle enhancement. Either way, we prioritise results that are appropriate for your body and maintain your comfort.
Breast augmentation results
If an implant ruptures, the breast deflates and the body absorbs the fluid. Silicone implant ruptures are usually less obvious and may be detected through imaging. That’s why ongoing surveillance (such as ultrasound or MRI) is recommended. If rupture occurs, the implant is removed or replaced safely.
Breast implant rupture is an uncommon but known risk. While modern implants are durable, all implants can weaken over time. Regular monitoring through imaging helps detect changes early and supports long-term safety.
Capsular contracture is a recognised complication where scar tissue tightens around the implant, affecting its shape or feel. It may require treatment or revision surgery in some cases. We’ll go through how to reduce this risk and what signs to watch for during recovery.
How long implants last
Not always, but breast implants are not lifetime devices. If they remain intact and you’re happy with the result, routine replacement may not be needed. However, many people do require revision surgery at some point due to changes in the implant, body, or personal preferences.
Implants are typically replaced if there’s a rupture, discomfort, or a change in your preferences. Revision may also be recommended after significant weight fluctuation, ageing, or pregnancy. We’ll talk through potential long-term scenarios during your initial consultation.
It’s possible, depending on your individual anatomy, lifestyle, and how your body changes over time. We’ll include long-term planning in your consultation so you’re well-informed from the beginning.
Your options and next steps
That’s completely fine. Your first consultation is a chance to explore your options, ask questions, and learn more, without any obligation. The focus is on providing clear information so you can make the right decision at your own pace.
Size choice is highly individual and depends on your body shape, shoulder width and desired appearance. Many women now prefer smaller, softer implants for a more natural and long-lasting result but this is something we’ll discuss in detail during your consultation.
There are required safety steps beforehand, including a cooling-off period and full medical assessment. Two consultations are required for all cosmetic procedures to ensure your decision is well-informed and all your questions are answered. Once everything is in place and you feel ready, we’ll schedule plastic surgery based on clinical timing and availability.
